  About the Society

The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences is a not for profit organization which was established in 1999. Through honouring scientists who significantly contributed to the development of medical services, the Award drives the advancement of these services substantially. In this regard, the Award recognizes excellence through the greatly diversified international, regional and local Awards.

In the same vein, the Award firmly believes in the importance of scientific research, hence the "Medical Research Grant" program was established to be at the forefront of funding local health research in UAE. In 2012 the Award also released "Hamdan Medical Journal", a concise scientific and medical periodical, covering all fields of medical and health sciences in printed and electronic versions and serving as a publishing platform for original research as well as continuous medical education.

In 2003, the Award established the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies, which started a totally unique database for genetic disorders in Arabs (CTGA). The latter grew to become one of the largest ethnic-based database on genetic disorders in the world.
Additionally, the Award developed mechanisms that help advance continuing medical education through organizing and sponsoring several CPD. The website is http://www.hmaward.org.ae/
