Capsase-8 assay (c) was performed after streptozotocin treatment in normal-glucose medium using a caspase-specific substrate, IETD conjugated to a chromophore, p-nitroaniline. Cleavage of this substrate releases the chromophore, which was measured colorimetrically at 405 nm. The results are mean ± standard error of the mean of three independent experiments. The asterisks indicate significant difference (*P ≤ 0.05, **P ≤ 0.005) from the control cells treated with vehicle alone. HG: High-glucose, STZ: streptozotocin
